Baltimore Ravens pay tribute to Michael K. Williams, kicking off game with The Wire whistle

At Sunday’s game between the Baltimore Ravens and the Kansas City Chiefs, the Ravens paid a saddened tribute to the late Michael K. Williams by honoring his iconic portrayal from The Wire.

The stadium was filled with joyful fans as a whistle, playing the tune of “The Farmer in the Dell,” echoed through the arena earlier to kickoff. The Ravens shared a video of the moment on internet, including the caption “For Omar.”

It wasn’t just the fans who were moved by the tribute; The Wire creator David Simon also took notice. Walking all over the Ostend Street bridge on his way to the Ravens opener, Simon heard the whistle and thought he had lost his mind.

He later wrote on tweeter, “It’s the little stuffs that are gonna get me, I guess. But Michael gonna last.”

The tribute continued at the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards, where Kerry Washington presented the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

Although Williams didn’t win, Washington praised him as a “brilliantly talented actor and a generous human being who has left us far too soon.” She make sure him that his excellence and artistry will endure.

Both the Ravens’ tribute and the Emmys’ recognition were heartwarming gestures to honor the memory of Michael K. Williams, a beloved actor whose legacy will continue to inspire.
