Brian McKnight is trending on social media after announcing he has legally swapped his name to match his 10-month-old son.
The 54-year-old R&B crooner and his wife, Leilani, welcomed their newborn, Brian Kainoa Makoa McKnight, in January.
The “Back At One” vocalist shared took to his Instagram account on Saturday to happily announce he has changed his name from Brian Kelly McKnight Sr. to Brian Kainoa Makoa McKnight Sr. to officially make his baby boy his junior.
The singer wrote:
So proud to introduce our son
🤍BRIAN KAINOA MAKOA JR. 🤍
- because I am also proud to publically announce that I have legally swapped my name to exactly same my legacy’s.
My real name is now
BRIAN KAINOA MAKOA MCKNIGHT SR.
“MCKNIGHTtime LULLABIES” the songs of a dad to his namesake available now!
Brian’s name swap was nothing more than another public stunt to further separate himself from his firstborn son, Brian McKnight Jr., who was already his namesake.
When someone said Brian Jr. change his name, he took to social media writing:
I’m not ashamed of the name my ancestors had. I’ll never swap the name my own son now has. We are witnessing an obscene intensity of self-hate, that has reached mental illness phase at this peak.
All we can do is pray for that person, and my new little brother, who we will all welcome with open arms one day, once he realizes who his real family is.
Legacy isn’t in the name. It’s in the role & behaviour of the people. It will all be quite crystal clear soon, just who’s on the right side of all this, because there’s no escaping what’s coming.
